Taxonomic notes
Based on phylogenetic inference from the ITS sequence data, D. kongii is closely related to Phomopsis cuppatea. Morphologically D. kongii has smaller conidia than those of P. cuppatea (Thompson et al., 2011).
Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?
It is a rare species, with only four occurrences in the world. More studies need to be done to learn more about its ecology and distribution, so I suggest including it in Deficient Data.

The species occurs as an endophyte of plants from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and a phytopathogen of commercial crops.

It is not a common species. Half occurrences of the species in Brazil were in the Atlantic Forest, one of the largest biodiversity hotspot on the planet.
