Cup-fungi, Truffles and AlliesIt is part of the Colletotrichum gigasporum species complex, and was originally reported from healthy leaves of Centella asiatica in Madagascar and Stylosanthes guianensis in Mexico (Liu et al., 2014).
The species was firstly collected in Madagascar, but there is still little data on its ecology. In Brazil, the area of occurrence is the Atlantic Forest, one of the main global biodiversity hotspots, threatened by urbanization and agricultural activities. I suggest inclusion of it in the near threatened category.
According to GBIF the species has 15 occurrences in 6 countries. In Brazil the species occurs in the Atlantic Forest.
There are about 16 records of the species in the world, of which five (31%) are in Panama. Although it is not a rare species, it is not very common.
Population Trend:
The species is found mainly in Panama and Mexico. In Brazil, the species is found in the Atlantic Forest.
Half of the occurrences of this species in Brazil are in the Atlantic Forest, one of the largest biodiversity hotspots on the planet.
Half of the records in Brazil are in protected areas.
Studies in different areas may reveal important data about the ecology of this species.
Molecular studies need to be used to assist in species recognition.
