Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

ITS sequences do not distinguish C. aeschynomenes from C. fructicola. These taxa are best distinguished using TUB2, GAPDH, or GS. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides “f. sp. aeschynomenes”
has been used to refer to isolates pathogenic to Aeschynomene
virginica. Genetically close to the geographically and biologically diverse C. siamense, it differs morphologically from this species in having slightly longer and narrower conidia which taper slightly toward the ends, and in having larger, strongly lobed appressoria.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Due to the little information on the occurrence of this species, I suggest including it as insufficient data (DD).

Geographic range

According to GBIF there are only 2 occurrences in the United States of America. But it is known of its occurrence in Brazil (Unpublished data).
