Develop assessment
The genetic analysis data suggest that this is a young taxon that needs to be preserved and studied.
Recently described as a new for science with easily recognizable secotioid fruit bodies (Crous et al., 2019). It is distributed in a small area in the North of the Russian Far East. The genetic analysis data suggest that this is a young taxon that needs to be preserved and studied.
There are 3 finds known from 1995, all of them in Magadan Oblast, Russia.
Tree known populations occupy not more 0.1 ha at all. One habitat is eroded by floodwaters and may be lost.
Floodplains and valleys with the Larix take a extensive area on Far East but this species was find only on small territory.
Population Trend: Decreasing
All populations were find in wet mixed forests with Larix cajanderi: in floodplains and valleys of Kolyma river and its tributaries. We conclused that S.gastroflavus is mycorrhiza-forming with the Larix.
The main threats are floodwaters in floodplains and anthropogenic factors such as forests using and deforestation.
We need in conservation and monitoring of known habitats as well as new population searching. Suillus gastroflavus will be recommended in Red Book of Russia and Red Book of Magadan Oblast.
