The goal of this initiative is to assess the global conservation status of the Brazilian edible mushroom species. Assessments will be considered on a rolling basis. When participants have completed filling in data for one or more species, they can ask those responsible for the initiative to conduct the assessment. Other participants and specialists will be welcome as they are recommended or their participation is requested for the assessments. Also, this initiative has the support of official IUCN RLU trainers. The BEM Conservation Initiative is conducted by groups that work for fungal conservation in Brazil, such as MIND.Funga Research Group (MICOLAB/UFSC/Brasil), LEMIC/UFSCAR, and IFungiLab (IFSP-SPO, Brazil), and other research groups and institutions, with efforts coordinated by IUCN Brazil Fungal Specialist Group SSC (BrazFunSG).
