Assessment Notes
The content on this page is fetched from The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species:
Justification
Cantharellus griseoisabellinus was described from monospecific
Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest at the Dja Biosphere Reserve in Cameroon, with the type specimen collected in 2016 (Buyck
et al. 2018). The extent of the range of
G. dewevrei is extremely large of central Africa, and so the potential range of this
Cantharellus species could be equally large. However, if it were restricted to this one site it is possible that the species could be highly threatened. Further information is required to ascertain the full distribution of
C. griseoisabellinus, but given the high level of uncertainty the species is assessed here as Data Deficient.
Geographic range
This species has only been collected from the Dja Biosphere Reserve in Cameroon (Buyck
et al. (2018), although note that the co-ordinates given for the specimen are likely in error, and it is assumed that the reference to West in the longitude should be East).
Population and Trends
There is insufficient information with which to calculate a population size or trend estimate.
Population Trend: unknown
Habitat and Ecology
The genus
Cantharellus consists of species that form ectomycorrhizal associations with trees. Collections of this species have taken place on soil in monospecific
Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest (Buyck
et al. 2018).
Threats
Without further information regarding the full range of the species it is not possible to infer significant threats to this species.
Conservation Actions
The only known collections of this species have been from the Dja Biosphere Reserve. Further field research across central Africa is required to find out how widespread this species may be. Such work should be focused within the range of
Gilbertiodendron dewevrei, as the species has only been found in monospecific forest of this species. Research to confirm this association would be beneficial.
Use and Trade
There is no information regarding use/trade of this species.
