Assessment Notes
Justification
This recently described species is known only from its holotype collection, made in the Republic of Korea, Cheong-cheon myeon, Geoi-san in 2013. Little is known regarding the habitat preferences of this species, but it is known to have been found growing underneath
Castanea crenata and
Larix kaempferi. This species appears to exist under protection, and is therefore not facing any significant threats. Due to a deficiency in information regarding this species' full geographic range and specific habitat preferences, it is difficult to assess the current population trends of this species, although they are presumed to be stable at this time at the known locality. Further research is needed in order to assess this species' habitat preferences and geographic distribution, in order to build an accurate assessment of this species, and so overall it is listed as Data Deficient until such research is carried out.
Geographic range
Information regarding this species' distribution appears to be limited to its holotype collection, made in the Republic of Korea, Cheong-cheon myeon, Geoi-san, at an altitude of 321 m on the 14th of August 2013, at coordinates N 36°37′06.54″, E 127°49′31.80″ (see Antonín
et al. 2017). This specimen likely occurs under protection within the Songnisan National Park.
Population and Trends
This species appears to exist within a stable population, under protection of the Songnisan National Park.
Population Trend: stable
Habitat and Ecology
The genus
Cantharellus consists of species of fungi that form ectomycorrhizal associations with trees. Basidiocarps of this ectomycorrhizal fungus exist in groups or are single. This species has been found on soil, underneath
Castanea crenata and
Larix kaempferi (Antonín
et al. 2017).
Threats
This species does not appear to be significantly threatened in its known locality.
Conservation Actions
Further research into this species' wild population distribution, as well as its habitat preferences would be useful in building an accurate assessment of this species, particularly if such research could clarify the relationship between this species and
Castanea crenata and
Larix kaempferi.
