A. telleriae was described in connection with a revision of the genus (Phosri et al 2013). It had previously been identified as A. hygrometricus; the latter was neotypfied in that study and A. telleriea was described to cover a genus almost exclusively found in the Mediterranean vegetation. Reliable identifications need DNA-sequencing.
Astraeus telleriae has a wide distribution in the Mediterranean area Europe. It is potentially underrecorded due to misidentications with A. hygrometricus s. str. More data on its distribution and habitat preferences are needed at it is provisonally proposed as DD.
Distributed in the Mediterranean vegetation with an extension eastwards to Iran. From Turkey, Morocco, and Iran probably only known from e-DNA-sequence data. Under-recorded due to misidentifications with other Astraeus species.
Currently appr. 350 records in GBIF database, but potentially underrecorded due to misidentifications with A. hygrometricus. No conclusions on populations trends can be drawn from current knowledge.
Population Trend: Uncertain
