The species is known to only one locality in Chile, from where it was collected for description. Upon subsequent forays it was no longer found.

Found once in 1998 in Puyehue, Antillanca, Southern Chile at 1100 mt above sea level.

Found once in one locality. It was not found in the same locality upon further searches 2 years after.

Ecto-mycorrhizal species with Nothofagus pumilio. Mutualist symbiont. It is found semi-buried in earth under N. pumilio in the Andes Mountain Range near clearings.

Deforestation, climate change. As an obligatory mutualist symbiont on Nothofagus pumilio, its threat status is tightly related to that of its host. Although the host has a wide distribution in the country, Gautieria inapire seems to be restricted to only central and southern Chile. The only register of the species seems to indicate a restriction to mountainous regions.

Creation of Protected Areas.

Further monitoring of areas near the typo locality are needed.
