Described from the premises of the University of Alcalá de Henares (Spain) as Calvatia complutensis, later transferred to Langermannia by Calonge (1998).
Langermannia complutensis is known from 3 sites in Central Spain (provincia Madrid). Latest record from 1991? (herbarium AH). To date only found in gardens and urban parks and is potentially nitrophilous. It is a fairly large puffball (up to 7 cm in diameter) which makes it relatively easy to spot. Nevertheless no recent records
seems to have been made. Its known localities are under continuous threats from exploitation and stochastic events. Under-recorded or extinct? Suggested alternative assessments: CR(D1), EX? DD?
Konwn from three sites in the area in the province of Madrid, Spain).
A very small population (< 5 localities). Last observed in 1991? No recent records seem to have been made. Under-recorded or extinct?
Population Trend: Uncertain
Saprotrophicc. Records have been made in antropogenous habitats (parks, gardens) under Robinia, Sophora, Cupressus and Thuja in thecontinental part of Spain. Potentially thermophilous, nitrophilous and basiphilous.
The very few and geographically concentrated localities are all threatened by exploitation (road constructions, buildings etc), gardening activities as well as stochastic events.
The known localities should be regularly monitored and could be highlighted in citizen science projects.
