Originally described as Ganoderma intermedium by Bresadola and Patouillard based on a specimen from Brazil. Also known as Amauroderma rude var. intermedium J.S. Furtado.

Although not a rare species, it occurs in endangered domains. We, thus, suggest this species to be categorized as Near Threatened.

GBIF database shows records from 6 countries in tropical America and Europe. Originally described from Brazil, there are several record in South and Central America. The only exception is one record from UK, which seems improbable.

In GBIF there are 80 records (72 as Amauroderma intermedium (Bres. & Pat.) Torrend, and 8 as A. rude var. intermedium.
From Brazil, most record were made in the Amazon forest.

Soil dweling species, associated with root of trees.

Although widespread in tropical America (probably not elsewhere), it is locally threatened by intense anthropogenic activities, especially in the Atlantic Forest (Brazil).

It is dependent of large and old growth forest fragments. Thus, preservation of significant forest fragments and proper management fundamental to the conservation of Amauroderma intermedium population.

Most records of Amauroderma were made with morphological identification of collected specimens, and this genus is rather difficult to delimit with morphological features only. Revision of specimens in the light of moder taxonomy is needed.
