The wine to dark brown pileus surface, the hyphal system with monomitic context with clamped hyphae and dimitic trama and the ellipsoid to subglobose basidiospores (3.5–5.0 × 2.0–4.5 µm) are characteristic of the species (Motato-Vásquez & Gugliotta 2016). It is a synonym of Flabellophora obovata (Jungh.) Corner.
The species in known in 16 countries, but about 60% of the reports are in Brazil.

Neotropical species. In Brazil the species is found in Amazonia, Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
The species is well distributed in Brazil, present in pluvial forest domain. However, the Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado are hotspots.
Some records in Brazil are in unprotected areas.
Other areas should be studied in order to assess the distribution of this species.
