Assessment Notes
Justification
This species is heavily deficient in any information regarding its present day distribution, habitat preferences, and potential threats, although it is known to have been collected from Papua New Guinea, growing on decaying grass. Without information relating to the current population, it is difficult to assess the current population trends of this species. Until further research is carried out in regards to these deficiencies in information, this species is listed as Data Deficient.
Taxonomic notes
It would be very unusual for a
Cantharellus to grow associated with a grass, so it may warrant a different genus (I. Olariaga Ibarguren
in litt. 2022).
Geographic range
This species is known to occur within Papua New Guinea (Commonwealth Mycological Institute 1981).
Population and Trends
Due to the great lack of information regarding this species' population, distribution, habitat preferences, and whether or not it is significantly threatened, the population trends of this species remain uncertain. Further research is required in order to better understand these trends.
Population Trend: unknown
Habitat and Ecology
The type specimen of this species was found growing on decaying grass (Commonwealth Mycological Institute 1981), however no further information appears to be known regarding this species' habitat.
Threats
Any threats which may be affecting this species are unknown at this time due to a deficiency in information regarding its geographical location.
Conservation Actions
No conservation action can be recommended for this species at this time, given the almost total lack of information regarding this species. Much research is needed in order to determine this species’ habitat preferences, its distribution, and whether it is significantly threatened, in order to accurately classify this species.
