Cantharellus croceifolius is known only from the type specimen. It was thought to be potentially the closest relative of C. isabellinus, but further work hypothesises that C. croceifolius may just represent a form of C. isabellinus. Therefore, given the taxonomic uncertainy C. croceifolius is assessed as Data Deficient.
Chanterelle project
This species is only known from the type specimen collected at Binga in northern Democratic Republic of Congo (Heinemann 1958). Recent work has suggested that this species may not be a full species, and instead it could represent a form of Cantharellus isabelinus (Buyck et al. 2018).
There is no information regarding population size and trend.
Population Trend: Uncertain
This species was collected from the soil on the forest floor (Heinemann 1958).
Without clearer knowledge of the full distribution of the species it is not possible to accurately infer the major threats to this species.
Further studies into the taxonomy of this species, as it is suspected that it may actually represent a form of Cantharellus isabelinus with two spores instead of four (Buyck et al. 2018). Further work to try to find further specimens could aid this, and would help to get a better idea of the full distribution of the species.
There is no information about use/trade of this species.
