Dacryopinax elegans is easily distinguished by the reddish-brown basidiomata and the thin context, as well as by the shape of some immature specimens (orbicular or cochleariform) and the 3 septa in the spores.

American species. In Brazil, the species is found in Amazon Forest, Atlantic Rain Forest and Cerrado.
In Brazil, this species is mostly distributed in pluvial forest domain. However, the Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest is already a hotspot.
About 2/3 of the records in Brazil are in unprotected areas.
In Brazil, more areas in should be studied in Cerrado, since this species seems to be rare in this biome.
The species was evaluated for the production of ligninases and herbicide degradation, with promising results (Arakaki et al. 2013).
