Assessment Notes

The content on this page is fetched from The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/266014734/266020050

Justification

The species is only known from its description in 1942, based on a specimen found in 1924 at a single location in France. The species has not been found since, so it is not possible to estimate the population size and trends and it is assessed as Data Deficient (DD).

Taxonomic notes

The type specimen for Cystogomphus humblotii was initially identified as Gomphidius tomentosus, but after revaluation was assigned to a new monotypic genus based on its morphological characteristics (Singer 1942). The type and only specimen for this genus may have since been lost (Miller Jr. 1971).

Geographic range

Only known from its type location in France, in Bois de Vincennes, Paris, France (Humblot 1926).

The species is only known from it type specimen from 1924, and has not ben found since or in any other localities. There is not sufficient information to calculate the current population size and distribution.

Population Trend: Unknown

Habitat and Ecology

This is a terrestrial species. The type specimen was found in October, in the gardens of race tracks under planted spruce (Humblot 1926). It is possibly ectomycorrhizal (Watling 2008).

Threats

Threats to this species are unknown.

Conservation Actions

New collections are needed to revaluate its taxonomic placement, estimate the current population size and distribution, and better understand its ecology.
