Mushroom, Bracket and PuffballGanoderma colossus is conspicous wood-inhabiting polypore hardwoods that has a widespread pantropical distribution.
There is no evidence of decline. It is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Described as Tomophagus, consolidated with Ganoderma, eventually re-segregated as Tomophagus.
Ganoderma colossus has a pantropical overall distribution.
The population size is likely to be large since this is such a widespread species and more or less stable. Apparently quite rare in many countries and perhaps scarce in any one local, but there is no indication of any decline.
Population Trend: Uncertain
Fruiting on debris and wood of hardwoods in low elevation semi-dry to moist tropical forests.
There are no major threats to this species.
Determination of specifics of taxonomy/systematics of this species or species complex on a global scale is needed.
If geographic structure indicating different taxa is detected, this proposal may need to be revisited.
