As a result of recent molecular analyses, the species was transferred to Neodyctiopus. Polyporus dictyopus is characterized by having basidioma laterally stipitate, with short, robust, black, and reticulated stipe, margin irregular, wavy and lobed, variable pilear surface color, and subcylindrical to rarely narrowly cylindrical basidiospores. The species may be similar to N. atlanticae, but differs by the short, robust, and lateral stipe, and the smaller basidiospores (Palacio et al. 2017).
Species distributed worldwide. It has 954 occurrences in GBIF, moslty in Brazil.
Species well distributed, presenting about 954 occurrences according to GBIF, moslty in Brazil.
Population Trend: Uncertain
In Brazil, the species is recorded in four biomes: Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga and Cerrado.
It presents no evident threat, being very common at least in Brazil. However, it is found in the Atlantic Forest, a hotspot, in the Amazonia (currently being deforested at the highest rates in the last decades) and Cerrado (also a hotspot). Also, Caatinga is threatened with desertification.
There are records in non protected areas.
Other countries should be better surveyed for a better understanding of distribution of the species.
