There is limited information available from the type description, and only one other record of C. dovrefjeldiensis. With a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution.
It is therefore now assessed as Data Deficient.
Cantharellus dovrefjeldiensis was described in 1902 by P. C. Hennings & W. Kirschstein and listed in Sylloge Fungorum in 1905. The type description states it is most closely related to Cantharellus cibarius.
Note that GBIF lists C. dovrefjeldiensis as a synonym of Lichenomphalia alpina (Britzelm.) Redhead, Lutzoni, Moncalvo & Vilgalys. This does not follow the Index Fungorum taxonomy and L. alpina will not be considered in this preliminary assessment.
Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project, but dropped as is synonym of Lichenomphalia alpina
Range unknown, C. dovrefjeldiensis was described from Dovrefjeld in Norway, but there are no occurrence data available for this species on GBIF.
In addition to the type, one specimen is recorded as a neotype on Mycobank, also collected in Norway, in the Oppland county, near Dovre and Furuhaugli in 1982.
Only known from type description and one other specimen.
Population Trend: Uncertain
The type is described from the ground in July, and noted to be extremely tiny.
No other information is available.
No known threats.
Confirmation of taxonomic status, population and distribution data and ecology required to better assess species.
