Since the description of Cantharellus applicatus there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. With a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. In addition, a synonymy issue needs to be resolved to ensure that erroneous occurrence data is not ascribed to C. applicatus in future.
It is therefore now assessed as Data Deficient.
Described by Joseph-Henri Léveillé under the basionym Merulius applicatus in 1843 in Annales des sciences naturelles, subsequently listed under Cantharellus applicatus by P.A. Saccardo in 1887 in Sylloge fungorum omnium hucusque cognitorum.
C. applicatus is currently listed as a synonym of Plicaturopsis crispa in GBIF, but C. applicatus is not included as a synonym of P. crispa on Species Fungorum. Preliminary assessment conducted based on Index and Species Fungorum synonymy and thus P. crispa occurrence data from GBIF not used. Clarification of the synonymy issue is required to review this preliminary assessment.
Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project.
Range unknown, described in Paris from type specimen and on wood in ‘Gallia’ (Gaul) from early listing (Saccardo, 1897).
No occurrence data available on GBIF.
Appears to be known only from type specimen.
Population Trend: Uncertain
Early listing described on wood (fallen branch), but extent of habitat and forest type unknown.
No major threats identified due to lack of information about habitat and ecology of species.
Confirmation of taxonomic status and records of presence and distribution required to better assess species.
