Perichaena longipes is morphologically similar to Perichaena pedata, its distinguished by the much longer stipe, lighter peridium and the unique ornamentation of the capillitium (Walker et al., 2015).

Perichaena longipes is a recently described species, has few records in the world and only in neotropics, it is not commom to be collected, only twice in Brazil associated to forest floor leaf litter of Amazon and Atlantic forest.

Perichaena longipes is only known in 3 countries. In Brazil it is known in 2 of 26 states (RR and AL). In GBIF there are no records.

The number of records is unavailable in GBIF, but its known that there are at least 4 records among 3 countries (Walker et al., 2015), 2 of records are from Brazil (RR and AL).

Perichaena longipes is present primarily on forest floor leaf litter, but also occur on small pieces of coarse woody debris or aerial leaf litter in moist chamber cultures. The specie is Neotropical, in Brazil is found in Amazonia and Atlantic forest.

Perichaena longipes in Brazil is found in Atlantic Forest which is a hotspot and Amazon Forest that has the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades.

The collections from Brazil are from threatened Biomes.

Are necessary more researches concerning field collection and moist chamber techniques using various types of substrate besides molecular biology techniques
